| These origami calendars show some
of the Fall themes: the harvest moon with the rabbit making mochi inside,
the tanuki (like a racoon), the fox, and the grasshopper are all very
"genki" (active) this time of year. |

| Below are some pictures of the
students doing their monthly cooking project. In September, they made
dango (a kind of doughy rice dumpling) using mochi-ko (sweet rice flout),
and boiling them in water... very, very sticky!!! |

| Above, you can see the students
get to enjoy what they make. They have 3 different "sauces"
to put on them: one is a sweet bean paste ("an"); one is sugar
and crushed/baked soybean flakes ("kinako"); and one is a sauce
made from cooking soy sauce, sugar, mirin (a kind of flavoring) all together.
OISHII!!!! (yummy). |

| Here the Niji-gumi (rainbow)
kids are making their own tsuki-mi dango with playdough. They are putting
them on a Sanpou (pedestal table). The story is that the dango are made
by the rabbit (not man) in the moon, and we offer up the dango to say
"thank you" for a good harvest. |
